Math Tutoring

LDANL offers math tutoring to children and adults in order to aid those who have difficulties in math, regardless of cause. Our tutors determine student needs and utilize various resources, including the Math-U-See program and the Jump Math program to help meet those needs.  Our tutors combine work on missing foundational skills and concepts as well as assistance with the student’s current course of study.  We promote a “multi-sensory” approach to math instruction, through the use of concrete manipulative materials and online manipulative materials.

The program is conducted one-on-one, during two 55 minute sessions per week. For more information on registration, please complete our registration form below.  You can also contact us via phone at (709) 753-1445 or email Karen.

Cost

Through the generous support of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Patten Family Foundation and the Northpine Foundation, many of our tutoring programs are free or partially subsidized.  In other circumstances, we offer paid tutoring at approximately $22 per session plus a $50 administration fee.

Summer Semester:   Runs during the weeks of NLESD school summer holidays

Fall Semester:   Runs from the second week in September until the second last week in December.

Winter Semester:  Runs from the second week of January until the NLESD Easter Break.

Spring Semester: Runs from start of school after the NLESD Easter break until the second last week of June.

Our Tutors

In order to provide the best quality of service for our tutoring program, LDANL hires tutors who possess relevant educational, work, volunteer and extra-curricular experiences as well as personal qualities to best work with our learners. Some of our tutors are students in the Education faculty training to be teachers, some are retired teachers, and some are working towards degrees in Social Work or Psychology.  We provide training to all tutors with respect to the programs we offer, the nature of Learning Disabilities and current best practices for working with children and adults who have Learning Disabilities.
