Assistive Technology Training and Support

Assistive Technologies (AT) are assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities. In the context of learning disabilities, AT includes any device, software or equipment that helps persons with learning disabilities work around their challenges by providing/improving access to learning. Devices such as computers, tablets, and laptops, as well as software such as Text-to-Voice, Voice-to-Text, Word Prediction, Spell Check, and Dictionary, are examples of AT.

We are happy to offer online AT mentorship and individualized support to enable you to access the curriculum in your school, post-secondary institution, work or life in general.

We provide support and training in four categories of applications: Beginner/Introductory Skills, Reading and Writing, Mathematics, and Organization.

Beginner/Introductory Skills

Basics include applications used on smartphones, tablets, and computers, from filling out forms with a screen reader to writing documents with voice and beyond. We provide support for basic tasks using assistive technology to enable people complete everyday tasks.

Reading and Writing

We support a variety of applications to help with reading and writing, such as using dictionaries, picture dictionaries, word prediction, highlighting, and more. There are a wide range of tools we provide support and tutoring to help with tasks like completing and submitting assignments, to writing resumes, essentials for anyone who may have trouble reading and writing.

Mathematics

Math can be difficult! Writing math can be even harder, that’s why we provide training and support to help anyone who may have difficulty completing math problems. We are able to provide support and training for EquatIO, a great tool that has many ways to help complete math problems, using voice recognition, handwriting recognition on a tablet or smartphone, or even just an easier way to type math, we can provide support to enable anyone to write math the way they want.

Organization

We can provide support for people who may have trouble with organization, or wish to be better organized. There are a wide variety of tools to help with organization and organizational workflows and we would like to show you! Both offline and online, using smartphones, tablets, or a desktop computer, don’t let organization get in the way of your goals.
