LDANL proudly presents Project SEEDS, an initiative to address the persistent illiteracy issues in the province.
Project SEEDS intends to
Identify children, aged 5 to 7, across the province who are at risk of becoming struggling readers as early as possible.
Support families/caregivers/service providers and work with them to help the children through early intervention and empowerment.
Did you know Newfoundland and Labrador has the lowest literacy rate among the provinces in Canada?
Still, a huge number of children and adults with Learning Disabilities remain undiagnosed in the province. The cost of a private assessment is not affordable to many. LDANL with the support from Northpine Foundation introduces screening and empowerment services for younger children to address this issue.
Project SEEDS is an initiative for identifying struggling readers as early as possible and providing timely intervention before reading issues progress, affecting even self-esteem.
Project SEEDS involves two components:
Dyslexia Screening
Empowerment Support
The screener is embedded in an online game so children do not feel they are being tested. It is age-appropriate and can be administered across the province. It is fun, and exciting and typically takes 30-40 minutes to complete.
Empowerment Support involves a number of support groups for parents that deal with topics such as Understanding Learning Disabilities, Science of Reading, Assessment, Advocacy, School Navigation, Accommodations, and Assistive Technology. Participants will also be helped with navigating various intervention services offered by LDANL such as the Barton Reading program.

The Screening is not intended for diagnosing Dyslexia, but to identify early signs of Dyslexia and reading barriers.
Project SEEDS Dyslexia Screening and Empowerment Resources are offered FREE to participants.
