Adult Literacy Project (ALP)
Through our Adult Literacy Project (ALP), LDANL offers fully funded (free) LD/ADHD-friendly reading and math tutoring for adults living in Newfoundland and Labrador. This program is designed for learners aged 18 or over and is also available to those aged 16 or 17 who are at risk of dropping out of education.
Our reading tutoring uses The Barton System, a multi-sensory, Orton-Gillingham derived method. Math tutoring uses LD-friendly resources such as Math-U-See and JUMP Math. Tutoring is typically delivered one-on-one in 55-minute sessions, twice per week per subject, with small group formats available when appropriate. We strive to be flexible to meet each learner’s individual needs and schedule.
In addition to academic tutoring, the program offers empowerment supports that build confidence, life skills, and self-advocacy. Learners can also access digital literacy and assistive technology training, non-diagnostic LD/ADHD screening, resource navigation, and conversation and reading skills development.
Adults with learning disabilities are also invited to join peer support groups, which offer a welcoming space to connect with others, share lived experiences, and build a sense of community.
