Non-Funded Math Tutoring Program

Our Math program is designed to be ‘LD friendly’ and helps children with LDs in Math (Dyscalculia) or those experiencing difficulty in math for various reasons. The program utilises various ‘LD-friendly’ resources, such as the Math-U-See and JUMP Math programs. We use a multi-sensory approach for concept and skill development and a mastery-learning approach for recalling basic facts. Our tutors combine work on missing foundational skills and concepts with  assistance with the learner’s current course of study.

In the Math-U-See program, it is important that a learner memorizes basic facts and formulae, building understanding through learning the concepts using concrete manipulative models.  Math-U-See is structured with step-by-step procedures for introducing, practising, mastering and reviewing concepts.

Fees

The tutoring session is One-on-One; 55 minutes long and costs $29.

Like our non-funded reading tutoring, we do not require a diagnosis of LD/ADHD for any of our services and there are no formal access requirements to qualify for them.

This tutoring is available in-person on a limited basis at our St. John’s offices and online across the province.

While we break during the typical breaks in the K-12 school system, learners are welcome at any time during semesters. Our Summer Tutoring takes place during the NL Schools summer holidays. Fall Term runs from the second week of school starting in September until the last week of school in December. Winter Term runs from the school start in January until the NL Schools Easter Break. Spring Term runs from the start of school after the NL Schools Easter break until the last week of school in June.
