Rural NL and Low Income Families Tutoring Support

Our reading tutoring uses The Barton System, a multi-sensory, Orton-Gillingham derived method. Our math tutoring uses ‘LD-friendly’ resources, such as the Math-U-See and JUMP Math programs.

Fees

The tutoring session is One-on-One; 55 minutes long. This stream usually offers a 50% subsidy for the cost of tutoring (usually $29 per hour) to parents/guardians of K – 12 learners who require financial assistance to access our tutoring provision.

Registration must be accompanied by a letter from the learner’s teacher.

Program Goals

  • Support children and adults with reading difficulties using the Barton System.
  • Improve reading decoding and spelling skills of any learner.
  • Assist learners who need instruction on other aspects of reading such as comprehension.
  • Learners can memorize facts and formulas to help to solve everyday life situations.

Residents of rural Newfoundland and Labrador and learners from low-income families are eligible for tutoring support. The program serves learners of any age who meet these criteria, with some flexibility to accommodate individual needs.

This tutoring is available online across the province.
